Jajpur, June 19: In response to the alarming diarrhoea outbreak sweeping across Odisha, Minister Suraj Suryavanshi visited Jajpur’s Dharmasala Medical Centre to assess the ground situation in one of the worst-affected districts.
Over 40 patients are currently undergoing treatment at the facility. The minister interacted with patients and reviewed medical arrangements with healthcare officials, ensuring that proper treatment protocols were being followed. He was accompanied by the local MLA, MP, and the state health director. Teams from both the central and state health departments are also inspecting local water sources to trace possible contamination.
Speaking to the media, Minister Suryavanshi noted a slight decline in new cases and emphasized that awareness campaigns are being ramped up across the affected regions.
Meanwhile, two more deaths were reported Tuesday night at Jajpur Road Medical Centre, pushing the diarrhoea-related death toll in the district to 10. State health teams have collected case histories and discussed treatment strategies with doctors and nursing staff. District Collector P. Anvesha Reddy also visited the hospital to review the situation.
Currently, 233 patients are receiving treatment across 13 healthcare centres in Jajpur, including the district headquarters hospital. To curb the spread of the disease, the district administration issued four key advisories:
- Avoid using untreated water from wells, ponds, or rivers.
- Always use boiled or purified water.
- Do not consume stale food.
- Wash hands properly and use toilets for sanitation.
A 40-member rapid response team has been deployed to conduct house-to-house surveys and awareness drives across all villages and blocks, confirmed the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO).
The outbreak has impacted hundreds across eight districts—Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Puri, and Balasore. The government has urged the public to remain cautious and follow hygiene protocols to prevent further spread.
