Odisha Bar Council suspends Archana Nag from practicing law, initiates disciplinary action

Cuttack, Sept 17: Odisha State Bar Council on Wednesday suspended Archana Nag from practicing law and initiated disciplinary action against her, citing the fraudulent concealment of criminal cases at the time of her enrollment as an advocate.

In a press release, Bar Council President Sitanshu Mohan Dwivedi stated that Archana Nag intentionally withheld information about several pending criminal cases while submitting her application for advocate registration.

Despite being obligated to disclose such details in points 14, 15, 16, 17, and 20(b) of the form, she falsely claimed that no cases were pending against her and that she was not involved in any other business or profession.

It was later revealed that multiple cases under different sections are currently under trial against Nag.

Additionally, official records indicate that she serves as a director in two companies—information she failed to disclose, in clear violation of the Advocates Act, 1961.

The Bar Council stated that these omissions constitute deceit and fraudulent misrepresentation.

Taking cognizance of the matter, the Bar Council, in its general meeting held on September 14, resolved to suspend Nag’s license to practice law and to initiate disciplinary proceedings against her.

The decision underscores the Council’s authority as the apex regulatory body overseeing legal education and the legal profession in the state.
