Bhubaneswar, July 21: The Odisha government has imposed a ban on the sale of petrol and diesel in plastic bottles or containers at fuel stations across the state.
The decision was made during a meeting between Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra and Utkal Petrol Dealers’ Association General Secretary Sanjay Lath.
This move follows a recent incident in Balasore, where a girl student of Fakir Mohan College died by self-immolation.
Minister Patra clarified that while plastic containers are now prohibited, customers may still collect fuel in glass containers at refilling stations.
To ensure effective implementation, the state will issue strict instructions to all District Collectors. The Minister also warned that action will be taken against individuals selling fuel illegally on roadsides without a valid license, with enforcement raids planned across the state.
