Bhubaneswar, August 19: Cuttack police have arrested an autorickshaw driver accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl and threatening her with violence. The incident, which took place on August 8, came to light last week after the victim disclosed the ordeal to her family.
According to the police report, the minor was traveling with a friend from Jagatpur to Badambadi in an autorickshaw. Near Shikharpur, she asked the driver for water. Upon his refusal, the two requested a stop so her friend could search for water nearby.
During that brief moment alone, the driver allegedly attempted to assault the girl by touching her inappropriately. When she resisted, he reportedly threatened to pour petrol on her and set her ablaze.
The victim informed her family days later, prompting them to file a complaint at the Chauliaganj police station. Local police initiated an investigation, forming special teams to locate the accused.
“The victim cooperated fully during the investigation,” said Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police. “Following her statement and CCTV verification, we identified the autorickshaw and apprehended the suspect. A medical examination was also conducted, and further inquiries are underway.”
