Bhubaneswar, October 11: Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy paid floral tributes to Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan on his 124th birth anniversary and martyr Baji Rout on his 88th death anniversary in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
Commemorative programmes were organised by the Information and Public Relations Department in collaboration with the Shaheed Baji Rout Memorial Foundation near the Odisha Legislative Assembly. Tributes were also offered at Baji Rout’s statue near DAV School Square in Unit-VIII and Jayaprakash Narayan’s statue at Master Canteen Square.
Other dignitaries, officials and distinguished personalities attended the programmes and paid homage to the two icons for their contributions to the freedom struggle and social transformation. Baji Rout, who was martyred at the age of 12, remains a symbol of courage and sacrifice, while Jayaprakash Narayan is remembered for his fight against injustice and leadership of the Total Revolution movement.
