Bhubaneswar, September 28: The Odisha Assembly’s Monsson Session was adjourned sine die on Monday, four days ahead of schedule, following flooding in the State.
The nine-day session, originally scheduled to end on October 3 after beginning on September 22, was curtailed after Government Chief Whip moved a motion to adjourn the House due to the flood situation in the State to ensure that the MLAs return to their constituencies and supervise relief and rehabilitation works.
BJP MLAs Upasana Mohapatra and Laxman Bag supported the motion. Following this, the Speaker adjourned the House sine die.
During the session, four important Bills, including the Odisha State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Bill, 2026, the Indian Stamp (Odisha Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Odisha Jan Vishwas Bill, 2026 were passed.
The House conducted business for only five of its scheduled nine working days. Because of repeated protests and uproar, the Question Hour could not be conducted on any of the five days.
The Opposition disrupted the proceedings over the amendment to the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) (MMDR) Act, leading to repeated adjournments and disruptions in the House.
On the opening day of the seventh sitting of the 17th session, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi participated in the proceedings and moved obituary motions paying tribute to departed former members and other eminent personalities.
