Bhubaneswar, Sept 25: The Odisha Assembly witnessed another disruption on the fourth day of the Monsoon Session, with proceedings lasting less than four minutes amid protests by Opposition members over the MMDR (Mines) Amendment Bill.

As soon as the House assembled on Friday, BJD and Congress MLAs rushed to the Speaker’s podium and began raising slogans against the MMDR amendment. The Opposition members displayed banners and posters demanding withdrawal of the legislation.

Congress MLAs also wore banners over their shirts like gowns as part of their protest against the proposed amendment. They continued raising slogans inside the House, while BJD members joined the protest, leading to a noisy scene during Question Hour.

With the Opposition continuing its protest, the House could not function normally. The Deputy Speaker subsequently adjourned the Assembly until 4 pm.

The BJD and Congress have been jointly opposing the MMDR amendment and have continued their protests, demanding that the Bill be withdrawn.
