Bhubaneswar, August 15: The Odisha government has approved the engagement of 5,740 retired teachers as Guest Teachers in government, fully aided, block grant high schools and Sanskrit TOL schools for the 2026–27 academic year.
The move aims to address teacher shortages and ensure uninterrupted classroom teaching until regular appointments are made. Guest Teachers will serve until permanent teachers join or the academic session ends, whichever comes first.
The scheme will be implemented under existing government guidelines, with District Education Officers engaging teachers against approved vacancies. The Finance Department has also cleared the proposal, with expenses to be met from the approved administrative budget.
