Odisha announces free Covid vaccine for all above 18 years

Bhubaneswar, April 25: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced free vaccination for citizens above 18 years. Addressing the people of State, Patnaik said that around 2 crore eligible persons will get free Covid jabs in Odisha. “The state govt will bear around Rs 2,000 crore for the purpose. The state government has placed order on Saturday for vaccination of people above 18 years,” said Patnaik. Odisha has placed orders for 377 lakh doses of Covishield and 10.34 lakh doses of Covaxin for third phase vaccination from May 1. The CM urged people to abide by the Covid norms. “I am never in favour of lockdown and shutdown as it will weaken the economy. We can only win the war against the virus by using mask and maintaining social distancing,” said Patnaik. As many as 6,116 persons in the state tested positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours taking the total caseload to 4,07,457.As many as seven fresh fatalities pushed the Covid death toll of Odisha to 1,988. Sunday was the third consecutive day when the single-day spike of new cases crossed the 6,000-mark.
