Bhubaneswar, Mar 14: As many 4172 children have fallen victim to sexual abuse in Odisha in the last three years. As per the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), as many as 4172 child sexual abuse cases were registered in the state between 2017 and 2019. Odisha police registered 249 child sexual abuse cases in 2017. Police received 1889 complaints in 2018 while 1895 children were sexually abused in the state. This graph peaked high in 2019 as NCRB recorded 2036 child abuse cases from police stations across Odisha when 2124 children fell victim. This matrix reveals that sexual abuse towards children got 718 per cent high in just two years. Concerned over the issue, social activists have blamed negligence on the part of police and the allied officials for rise of the cases. Director of Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation Jyoti Mathur said, Sexual abuse towards children is soaring high day by day due to negligence of police and execution mechanism. The faster disposal of cases with stringent punishment will reduce the rate of the crime, he asserted.
