Odisha: 19-year-old student immolates self in Cuttack

Cuttack, Feb 19: In a horrific incident, a 19-year-old student died after allegedly setting himself on fire in his rented accommodation in Purighat area of Odisha’s Cuttack last night.
The deceased has been was identified as Ankan Dutta, a native of West Bengal. He was pursuing Plus II in Christ College and was residing at Mathasahi Gopaljew Lane under Purighat police limits.
As per reports, Ankan locked all the doors and windows of the house and allegedly set himself on fire after pouring diesel on himself. After hearing his screams locals immediately alerted the fire brigade officials.
Upon getting the information, fire brigade officials rushed to the spot and rescued him. Unfortunately, Ankan had succumbed to his burn injuries by the time he was rescued.
The exact reason behind his extreme step is still unclear.
Purighat police have seized Ankan’s half-burnt body and sent it for post-mortem.
Further investigation into the matter was underway to ascertain the exact reason that prompted the teen to take the extreme step.
