Bhubaneswar, July 22: Bhubaneswar Special Vigilance Court has sentenced Prafulla Kumar Mishra, a retired Secretary of the Service Co-operative Society at Kamondo in Odagaon, Nayagarh district, to four years of rigorous imprisonment for misappropriating agricultural loan funds.
Mishra was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with Section 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The court found him guilty of embezzling cooperative society funds during his tenure—funds that were meant to support agricultural loans for local farmers.
In addition to the prison term, the court also imposed a monetary fine on Mishra. He was taken into judicial custody immediately after the verdict was pronounced.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance has announced its intention to approach the competent authority to halt Mishra’s pension benefits, by legal provisions governing convicted government employees.
