NSUI activists scuffle with cops over corruption in OSSC

7/09/2021 at 5:25 PM

Bhubaneswar, Sept 7: Hundreds of activists of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress party, scuffled with the police in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday while marching towards the State Assembly to protest against the alleged job scam in Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC).

They also demanded the arrest of Law Minister Pratap Jena for his alleged involvement in the murders of two BJP leaders at Mahanga in January this year.

As per the sources, the activists took out a rally from outside the Congress Bhawan protesting against the alleged OSSC scam.

However, as they marched towards the Assembly, police stopped them near the Lower PMG area. The protestors then tried to break through the barricades and march towards the Assembly, resulting in a scuffle between the police and members of the NSUI. A few activists have been detained by the police.

The protestors alleged that the state government is protecting the OSSC Chairman, members, and other high-ranking officials while taking action against a lower-ranking employee who was arrested by the Vigilance Department for having disproportionate assets.

“The OSSC Chairman, members and all those involved in the Commission during the last 21 years’ job scam should be brought under a specific probe,” demanded a protestor.
