Bhubaneswar: Now, Constables and Havildars will investigate cases in the State.
Director General of Police Dr RP Sharma today said that the Constables and Havildars, who have completed graduation, will be given special training before taking the new responsibility.
The new system will be introduced within three months.
Since the State police run short of investigating officers (IOs) in police stations, it need an increasing number of experienced hands to probe cases.
“Constables with good educational background and experience can be handy,” said Sharma.
Sources said the police department will select capable Constables and Havildars, mostly graduates and subject them to specialized trainings to handle investigations into crimes such as theft, pick-pocketing, accidents and car and bike thefts.
At present, the Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) probe such petty cases. The proposed delegation of investigation power to Constables and Havildars will be done within three months.
