Kishorenagar,(Angul) Oct 23: To strengthen the waste management system at the grassroots level, the National Institute of Women, Child and Youth Development (NIWCYD) organized a training-cum-orientation program for frontline workers under the Green Initiative Project, supported by the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) and Kishorenagar Block Administration.

The fourth day of the ongoing Waste Management Campaign focused on empowering Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC) members through sessions on waste segregation, household-level cleanliness, and community sensitization.

The event was graced by Subrat Kumar Behera (BDO, Kishorenagar), Laba Kumar Pradhan (Vice Chairman, Kishorenagar Block), and Sandhya Rani Palei (RWSS), who urged participants to play proactive roles in ensuring sustainable and decentralized waste management practices within their villages.

During the training, participants viewed motivational videos and visuals showcasing successful waste management models across various Gram Panchayats. The sessions also emphasized source segregation, proper use of green and blue dustbins, and Faecal Sludge and Septage Management (FSSM) practices, along with the crucial role of VWSC members in promoting behavioral change within the community.

At the end of the program, VWSC members shared their key learnings in writing and pledged to strengthen waste management activities in their respective areas.

As part of the campaign, Gram Sabhas were held in four Panchayats, focusing on strengthening waste management at the village level. Additionally, the first tricycle-based household waste collection initiative was launched at Nakchi Gram Panchayat, marking a major milestone in promoting sustainable waste collection and management across Kishorenagar Block.
