Bhubaneswar: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik today thanked the people of the State for making Bharat bandh “a huge success” across the State.
The Bharat Bandh call was given by the Congress in protest against rising oil prices and to put pressure on the NDA Government to slash the price.
Normal life was severely affected in all parts of Odisha.
“People spontaneously supported the bandh. We got overwhelming response from people,” said Patnaik in a press conference at the State party headquarters here after the bandh concluded.
The bandh was observed between 6 am and 3 pm.
He lashed out at both Central and State Government saying the BJP at the Centre and BJD in Odisha has miserably failed to contain rising fuel prices.
Though the bandh was by and large peaceful in most parts of the State, tension prevailed following scuffles between police personnel and protestors in Bhubaneswar and in Puri district.
