Bhubaneswar, Nov 24: Revealing more details about the OCAC CEO Manoj Kumar Pattnaik’s WhatsApp hack case, Crime Branch ADG Sanjeeb Panda on Wednesday said that the Nigerian national Okwudiri Paschal was not the prime accused in this case.
Several other cyber fraudsters belonging to a Nigerian gang were involved in this case, said Panda.
He further added that Paschal was taking a 10 percent commission for committing cybercrime from the gang operated in Nigeria.
Worth mentioning, the WhatsApp account of OCAC CEO Manoj Kumar Pattnaik was hacked. The fraudster demanded money from his relatives by impersonating him. Assuming the message to be genuine, five contacts had transferred Rs 7 lakh to the bank accounts shared by the fraudster.
Later, Paschal was apprehended by Delhi Police on November 22 in Bengaluru. Following his arrest, Delhi police informed Odisha Crime Branch about the development. A two-member Crime Branch left for Bengaluru and took him on 8-day transit remand for interrogation.
