Bhubaneswar, October 2: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has initiated an investigation into the alleged assault of Tikhiri Sarpanch Chameli Ojha, with a three-member team scheduled to visit Kendrapara on Monday, October 5, to conduct an on-ground inquiry.
The alleged incident took place on June 11 inside the chamber of the Mahakalapada Block Development Officer (BDO), where Sarpanch Chameli Ojha was reportedly assaulted and allegedly misbehaved with.
The NHRC headquarters in New Delhi has formally informed the Kendrapara Collector and Superintendent of Police about the proposed visit. During its stay, the three-member team is expected to record statements from various stakeholders associated with the case.
The team is likely to question personnel from Mahakalapada police station, the BDO and his office staff, eyewitnesses, the investigating officer and the doctor who examined the alleged victim.
The NHRC team will also examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and gather relevant information and evidence as part of its detailed inquiry.
