Lucknow, Jan 10: A newly married woman was allegedly killed by her husband and in-laws for dowry in Para police limits in Lucknow late Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Sarita Prajapati (28), a resident of Thakurganj locality.
According to sources, Sarita was married to Vimal Singh Yadav on November 21 last year.
Her father, Dost Sringar, informed that Vimal and his father often harassed Sarita for dowry.
“I had given several gifts during the wedding to Vimal, but his family was pressuring Sarita to bring an additional amount of Rs 15 lakh as dowry to buy a plot,” he said.
However, Sarita called up her father on Sunday evening and said she was being brutally thrashed by Vimal and his parents.
When her father was on his way to Sarita’s in-laws’ house, he got a call from Vimal who said that Sarita had died on the way to the Trauma Centre.
The husband and the in-laws of the woman are now absconding.
Sarita’s father has alleged that Vimal and his family members have killed Sarita and portrayed it as a suicide.
Being informed police arrived at the spot and recovered the body. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem to a nearby hospital.
Police have registered a case of dowry death and launched a hunt to nab the accused, who are on the run.
