Bhubaneswar, May 8: In a major boost for air connectivity, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi announced today that direct flight services between Bhubaneswar and Abu Dhabi will begin in June 2025.
The new service will be operated by IndiGo, India’s leading low-cost airline, under the government’s B-MAAN (Building & Management of Aviation Assets and Network) scheme.
IndiGo will offer direct flights on the Bhubaneswar-Abu Dhabi route three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. While the exact start date is yet to be confirmed, the introduction of this route marks a significant milestone in Bhubaneswar's growing status as a key aviation hub in eastern India. This will be the fifth international flight route from Bhubaneswar, further expanding the city’s global reach.
While the announcement of the route has been made, officials at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) are still in discussions to finalize the slots for these flights. Prasanna Pradhan, the Director of BPIA, stated that once the slots are confirmed, the flight schedule will be released.
The new flight service aims to enhance travel between Bhubaneswar and Abu Dhabi, offering travelers from Odisha and surrounding regions a convenient and efficient way to connect to the UAE and beyond. This development is expected to foster better tourism, business, and cultural exchanges between the two regions, while also providing increased opportunities for Odisha's residents to travel internationally.
