Nepal national among two arrested for ganja smuggling

Bhubaneswar, June 22: The Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch on Wednesday seized Ganja weighing 806 kilograms worth Rs 1 crore near Pitapalli in Bhubaneswar. Police have also arrested two accused including a Nepal national. The accused have been identified as Anil Kumar, a resident of Uttar Pradesh and Ganesh Shah, a Nepal national. Acting on a tip-off, STF intercepted the truck transporting the contraband near Pitapalli. “During search we found ganja weighing 806 kilograms concealed in the secret chamber of the container. The accused could not produce any valid authority in support of transportation of ganja, for which the accused were arrested and were forwarded to the court of District & Sessions cum Special Judge, Khurda in Bhubaneswar,” said an official. Since 2020, the STF has seized more than 52 kg of brown sugar, 202 gram cocaine and more than 111 quintals of ganja, 750 gram opium and arrested more than 148 drug dealers and peddlers.
