NUWAKOT (NEPAL), August 31: Rescue operations have intensified in Nepal as authorities search for 933 workers and employees at several hydropower project sites who have been uncontactable since August 26 following devastating floods in the country.

Many of those missing are feared to be trapped inside tunnels at the hydropower facilities, officials said. Rescue teams have been working to locate and evacuate them, with expert personnel from India and China joining the efforts.

Massive flash floods swept across parts of northern and central Nepal last week, causing widespread destruction in towns and villages. The floods are believed to have been triggered by a collapse or avalanche of ice and rocks near the Nepal-Tibet border.

More than 900 people have been killed in the disaster, while around 4,500 others are still reported missing as rescue and search operations continue across the affected areas.
