Neeraj Chopra Qualifies for Diamond League Final
India's star javelin thrower, Neeraj Chopra, has officially qualified for the 2025 Diamond League final in Zurich. The qualification provides a significant boost for the reigning world champion as he builds momentum for two crucial upcoming events: the Diamond League final itself and the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
Securing a Spot
Chopra secured his place among the top contenders for the final, scheduled for August 27-28, based on his strong performances earlier in the season. According to the latest rankings, he is third in the standings with 15 points. He earned these points from just two Diamond League appearances this year: a victory in Paris and a second-place finish in Doha, where he set a new national record with a massive 90.23m throw.
His qualification was confirmed after the recent Silesia leg of the tour, a meet he chose to skip. His main rival, Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, also withdrew from the event due to an injury, meaning their much-anticipated post-Olympic clash is still on hold.
Focus on Major Titles
This season has seen the 27-year-old experiment with a new technique under a new coach. His consistent performances have set him up for a busy and important end to the season. After competing for his second Diamond League crown in Zurich—a title he last won in 2022—Chopra will travel to Tokyo to defend his gold medal at the World Championships, which begin in September.
