New Delhi, August 18: NDA’s Vice Presidential nominee and Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan met the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi today.
In a post on X, PM Modi wrote: “Met Thiru CP Radhakrishnan Ji. Conveyed my best wishes on his being the NDA’s Vice Presidential nominee. His long years of public service and experience across domains will greatly enrich our nation. May he continue to serve the nation with the same dedication and resolve he has always demonstrated.”
Yesterday, Radhakrishnan was named the National Democratic Alliance’s Vice-Presidential candidate, after the BJP Parliamentary Board endorsed his name, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The election was necessitated after the incumbent, Jagdeep Dhankhar, announced a sudden resignation on July 21, citing health concerns. The Vice Presidential election scheduled for September 9.
Radhakrishnan, 68, is a two-time former MP from Coimbatore and a former Tamil Nadu BJP president.
Born in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruppur district on October 20, 1957, Radhakrishnan had joined the Jan Sangh, the earlier avatar of the BJP, and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh while in his teens, and had worked within the party at an organisational level as well. He had also served as the RSS’s Tirupur town chief and district chief.
Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan was sworn in as the Governor of Maharashtra on 31st July 2024. Prior to his appointment, he served as the Governor of Jharkhand for nearly one and a half years. As the Governor of Jharkhand, Shri Radhakrishnan was appointed by the President of India to discharge the functions of the Governor of Telangana and as the Lt. Governor of Puducherry.
