Shardiya Navratri 2026 will begin on October 11, according to the Panchang. The Pratipada Tithi will begin at around 9:19 PM on October 10 and continue until around 9:30 PM on October 11. Based on the Udaya Tithi, October 11 will be observed as the first day of Navratri.
The first day is dedicated to Maa Shailputri, the first form of Goddess Durga. Devotees will also perform Ghatasthapana (Kalash Sthapana) to mark the beginning of the nine-day festival. Many devotees observe fasts, perform daily prayers and light an Akhand Jyot during Navratri.
Ghatasthapana 2026 Shubh Muhurat
Ghatasthapana holds special significance on the first day of Navratri. On October 11, the auspicious time for performing the ritual will be from 6:19 AM to 10:12 AM.
The Abhijit Muhurat will be observed from 11:44 AM to 12:31 PM.
During Ghatasthapana, a sacred kalash is installed as a symbolic representation of the Goddess. Sowing barley seeds alongside the kalash is also a traditional practice. The growth of the barley over the nine days is considered auspicious.

Navratri will conclude on October 19 with the worship of Maa Siddhidatri. In several places, devotees also perform Kanya Pujan, particularly on Ashtami and Navami. Temples often organise special prayers, religious programmes and community feasts during the festival.
When Is Dussehra 2026?
Vijayadashami or Dussehra will be celebrated on October 20, 2026, a day after the conclusion of Navratri.
The festival commemorates Lord Rama's victory over Ravana. In several parts of the country, effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnad are traditionally burnt on Dussehra.
Navratri Fasting and Puja Significance
Navratri is also widely observed through fasting and devotional practices. Some devotees observe a fast throughout the nine days, while others fast on the first and final days.
Morning and evening prayers dedicated to Maa Durga are performed at homes and temples. Temples are also decorated and host special religious programmes during the festival.
