Bhubaneswar, July 7: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Odisha Assembly, Naveen Patnaik, was discharged on Monday from a private hospital in Mumbai, where he had undergone spine surgery for cervical arthritis.
The surgical procedure was performed on June 22 at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.
According to BJD leader Santrupt Mishra, Patnaik will remain in Mumbai for the time being, and his return to Odisha will depend on medical advice.
Hospital sources confirmed that Patnaik was discharged following a steady improvement in his health condition.
Expressing gratitude, Patnaik posted on social media platform X: “I would like to thank the entire medical team of @KDAHMumbai and @GangaWebteam for providing excellent medical service and taking great care of me pre-surgery and post-surgery. Heartfelt thanks to everyone from #Odisha and outside for their wishes and prayers for my health. Jai Jagannatha 🙏”
Following his surgery, several prominent leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had extended their wishes for his speedy recovery.
Meanwhile, many BJD leaders and supporters offered prayers at temples across Odisha for Patnaik’s successful recovery.
