Naveen condoles death of retired Major General Basant Kumar Mahapatra

Bhubaneswar, Feb 15: Retired Major General Basant Kumar Mahapatra, who had participated in four major wars including the one between India and China in 1965, passed at his residence in Bhubaneswar at the age of 88. Mahapatra was commissioned into armoured corps (Tanks) of the Indian Army as a Combat Officer. Acknowledging his contribution, the President of India had conferred the most prestigious Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) on Major General Mahapatra. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik mourned the death of Mahapatra. “Odisha mourns the sad demise of its illustrious son, Major General (Retd) Basant Kumar Mahapatra. The war veteran participated in many major battles the country has fought. He will always be remembered for his bravery, contribution to education & philanthropic activities. RIP,” read a tweet of the CM.
