Bhubaneswar, April 1: The nationwide Census exercise is set to commence on Wednesday, with the process being carried out simultaneously across the country. In the state, the exercise will be formally launched from the Governor’s residence.

Officials said the first phase will involve self-enumeration for a period of 15 days starting April 1. Citizens can submit their details through the official portal or mobile application by answering a set of 33 questions.

The second phase will begin from April 16 and continue till May 15, during which enumerators will conduct door-to-door visits to collect data. The survey will cover a wide range of information including housing conditions, family details, social categories, amenities, and ownership of assets.

Self-enumeration is optional, but those who complete the process online will not be required to participate in the physical survey again and can provide their reference number to officials.

Authorities have urged people to provide accurate and reliable information for effective policy planning and national development.

Notably, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will not be part of the Census exercise and has been deferred due to elections in several states.Over 1.2 lakh teachers and government staff will be engaged in the process across the state. Officials also clarified that the data collected will remain confidential and will not come under the purview of the RTI Act.
