Jeypore, June 21: The Department of Philosophy of Vikram Deb College on Monday hosted a national webinar under the aegis of ICPR (Indian Council of Philosophical Research) to mark the seventh International Day of Yoga. Prof Sarat Chandra Panigrahi, formerly Head of PG Department of Philosophy, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar graced the occasion as Chief Speaker, Prof Amulya Mohapatra, Formerly Principal, Government College, Koraput was another eminent speaker.Prof Ganesh Prasad Das, Executive Member, ICPR enlightened the participants with concluding remarks.
Dr Gopal Halder, Principal, Vikram Deb Autonomous College delivered the inaugural speech in which he emphasized upon the tremendous liberating potential of Yoga from both physical and psychological stress and anxieties. He also spoke about the salutary effects of Asanas and Pranayams integral to the yogic domain. Prof Panigrahi presented his deliberation underscoring the relevance of Yoga in these unprecedented times of the Corona Pandemic. He depicted Yoga as the sublimation of Jivatma into Paramatma. A number of allusions were cited by him to reinforce the basic tenets of Yoga as evident in Bhagvad Gita.
He dwelt upon various forms and methods of Yoga and asserted that the sole objective of Yoga is realisation of ultimate realities in oneself. In his viewpoints, Yoga transcends cultural and religious barriers and seeks to unite the entire humanity across the globe through physical well-being and spiritual enlightenment.
The same thoughts were echoed by Prof Mohapatra as he began his speech reciting a poem composed by him on the quintessence of Yoga. He went on to describe myriad forms of Yoga and their benefits for everyone. The necessity to adopt Yoga as a way of life was aptly dwelt upon by him.
Prof Ganesh Prasad Das stressed how Yoga subsumes in it the elements of ethics, ontology and epistemology. He likened Yoga to an enamel coating that invariably and perpetually wards off all sorts of physical affliction and ensures mental wellness.
The webinar came to an end with a proposal of Vote of Thanks by Gyana Ranjan Mohanty, Lecturer in Physics, Vikram Deb College. The Coordinator of the programme Lt (Dr) Lakshman Patra, Lecturer in Philosophy, Vikram Deb (Auto) College extended his heartfelt gratitude to ICPR for the sponsorship and all the dignitaries, faculty members of the department and students for their time and active participation.
