Balangir, Oct 22: Tension erupted at the mother and child care unit of Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir following allegations that a woman and her newborn baby died due to medical negligence.

According to reports, the incident triggered a confrontation between the deceased woman’s family members and hospital security guards, which reportedly escalated into a physical altercation.

The deceased woman has been identified as Manjulata Behera, a resident of Ashrampada in Kantabanji.

Following the incident, police personnel were deployed on the hospital premises to bring the situation under control. Police were seen trying to pacify the agitated family members and other people gathered at the spot. However, the protesters remained adamant and refused to heed the police's appeals.

The allegations of medical negligence have triggered tension at the hospital, while the situation remains sensitive.
