Bhubaneswar: The body of 50-year-old Odia mountaineer Kalpana Dash reached the Biju Patnaik International Airport here this morning..
According to reports, the body was brought from New Delhi to Bhubaneswar by a flight and will be taken in a procession to the Kalinga Stadium Sports Complex for visit of the general public.
After a few hours’ stay at the Kalinga Stadium, the mortal remains of Dash, popularly known as “Parvata Rani”, will be taken to her native village in Dhenkanal district. Later, the mortal remains of Dash will be taken to Puri for cremation at the Swargadwar.
Notably, Kalpana died while climbing down the Everest on May 23. An autopsy was conducted on the body at Kathmandu on Friday. The report said the death was due to lack of oxygen.
A large number of people, including sportsmen and mountaineers, have gathered at the stadium to have the last glimpse of Kalpana, who had brought laurels to Odisha by climbing Everest and other peaks across the world.
