Bhubaneswar, August 3: The mortal remains of the 15-year-old girl who was set ablaze by miscreants in Odisha’s Puri district will be airlifted to Bhubaneswar on Sunday for her final rites, officials confirmed.
The girl, who was attacked on July 19 in Balanga, succumbed to her injuries on Friday at AIIMS Delhi. Her postmortem was conducted at the AIIMS Trauma Centre, and her body has since been handed over to her family. Arrangements have been made to airlift her remains back to her native village.
According to police reports, the teenager had gone out with friends when she was allegedly abducted midway and taken to a riverside location, where she was set on fire. Despite suffering severe burns, she managed to reach a nearby house, from where her cousin took her to the hospital.
With 75 percent burn injuries, she was initially treated at AIIMS Bhubaneswar before being airlifted to AIIMS Delhi, where she was admitted to the Burn ICU.
Earlier, the Odisha Police issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter), urging the public to refrain from making “sensitive comments” as the investigation nears completion.
“Based on the investigation so far, it is clear that no other person is involved. We request everyone to avoid making any sensitive or speculative remarks during this tragic time,” the statement read.
