Mumbai, May 8: The third installment of the popular ‘Drishyam’ series, starring Mohanlal, has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a U/A 13+ certificate, ahead of its theatrical release on May 21, 2026.

Mohanlal shared the news on his Instagram on Thursday, along with the film’s official poster, writing, “Drishyam 3 censored with U/A 13+ certificate. In Cinemas Worldwide from May 21, 2026.”

The recently released teaser of Drishyam 3 hints at a darker narrative. Mohanlal’s character, Georgekutty, reflects on past choices amid the fear of being watched. The one-minute-50-second teaser begins with Georgekutty describing his simple life with his family, disrupted by “an unwanted guest with the power to destroy them.” As the story unfolds, he contemplates the challenges of protecting his family, while the teaser suggests larger, unseen plans at play. Glimpses of Georgekutty’s wife and daughters are also shown.

The film’s shooting began in September 2025, marked by a traditional pooja ceremony. Director Jeethu Joseph, producer Antony Perumbavoor, and Mohanlal attended the launch event. Mohanlal was seen holding the clapperboard before joining the cast and crew for the rituals.

The Drishyam series revolves around Georgekutty and his family, who come under suspicion after the son of a senior police officer goes missing. The first two films, released in 2013 and 2021, were widely praised for their gripping storylines and unexpected twists. The franchise has also inspired remakes in several languages, including Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
