Mob stages protest over rehabilitation in Koraput, police resort to lathicharge

Bhubaneswar, Mar 20: Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse protesters who turned violent during protest against NALCO's rehabilitation and resettlement policy at Damanjodi in Koraput district today. They were protesting for last few days and today staged a roadblock demanding immediate employment at NALCO. Sources said, a mob of people those who have lost their land for NALCO were staging a dharana demanding regular appointment in Nalco. District Administration and police tried to refrain the mob from the protest; however, the mob remained firm with their demand. Getting the situation out of control, police resorted to lathicharge, applied teargas and opened blank fire to disperse the protesters. The district administration has imposed Section 144 in the locality to avoid further untoward situation.
