Sundargarh, Aug 3: The body of a minor girl, who had been missing since Friday, was found hanging from a tree in the Lulukidhi forest near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border on Sunday.
As per reports, the victim, hailing from Talasara police station area in Sundargarh district, was found after an extensive search operation led by the Talasara police, with support from a scientific team and sniffer dogs.
According to police, the minor was last seen on Friday when she reportedly met her boyfriend, a married man from Chhattisgarh, in the forest. Another youth was with them during the meeting. A heated argument reportedly took place between the girl and her boyfriend, after which she went missing. The boyfriend told the police that the girl ran into the forest after their fight.
After hearing about her disappearance, local villagers caught the boyfriend and his friend from Chhattisgarh and handed them over to the Talasara police for questioning.
The girl's family suspects foul play and believes the boyfriend might be responsible for her death.
The police started a search in the thick Lulukidhi forest, using a scientific team and sniffer dogs and found the girl's body hanging from a tree.
A case has been registered and post-mortem report is awaited. The boyfriend and his friend are in custody while the investigation is underway, said the police.
