Cuttack, June 25: A major mishap was averted after miscreants’ allegedly hurled stones at an OSRTC Volvo bus near Nukhapada Chhak in Odisha's Cuttack district, shattering a window and endangering the lives of passengers onboard. The entire incident was reportedly captured on CCTV cameras.
According to reports, the government-run Volvo bus (Registration No. OD-02-DD-9104) was travelling from Cuttack to Bhawanipatna via Narsinghpur on Wednesday night. The bus reached Narsinghpur at around 9 pm.
Sources said trouble began when the bus was negotiating a turn near Club Chhak in Narsinghpur. A Bolero vehicle allegedly blocked its path, leading to a heated argument between its occupants and the bus driver and conductor. The individuals reportedly returned to the bus stand later and threatened the crew before leaving.
After departing from the Narsinghpur bus stand and resuming its journey towards Bhawanipatna, the bus came under attack near Nukhapada Chhak. Two unidentified miscreants allegedly hurled a large brick at the moving vehicle, smashing one of the window panes.
The brick broke through the glass and landed near Seat No. 4 inside the bus. Shockingly, a young girl was sleeping in the seat at the time of the incident. Fortunately, the brick fell beneath the seat after shattering the window, narrowly missing the child and preventing what could have been a serious tragedy.
Passengers were left terrified by the sudden attack, while the damaged bus continued under difficult circumstances.
Following the incident, bus staff lodged a written complaint at Narsinghpur Police Station. Police have initiated a preliminary investigation and are examining CCTV footage to identify and apprehend those involved in the attack.
The incident has raised concerns over the safety of public transport passengers and prompted demands for strict action against the culprits.
