Jajpur, Aug 13: In a shocking incident, a minor tribal girl from the Kalia Pani area in Odisha's Jajpur district was reportedly trafficked to Madhya Pradesh, where she was allegedly married off to the buyer.
As per reports, two sisters from Sansailo village under Sukinda police limits allegedly planned to sell the girl. The younger sister, who was friends with the victim, tricked her by promising a trip for sightseeing and a pilgrimage. Instead, they took her to Madhya Pradesh, where they sold her to a man who intended to marry her.
After learning about the incident, the victim’s family filed a complaint with the police. They found out when the girl shared her story along with photos and videos from Madhya Pradesh. The family has given these to the police as proof.
Sources say the younger sister got to know the victim while they both stayed at a high school hostel in Kuhika. During summer vacation, she visited the victim’s village several times. The victim, who had just finished her matric exams and joined Sukinda College, went missing on July 27.
That morning, the two sisters took the girl to Madhya Pradesh. The day after arriving, the victim told her parents she was okay. However, about a month and a half later, the family found out she had been sold and married, with her in-laws allegedly paying money to buy her.
Kalinganagar ASP Suprasanna Mallik said an investigation is ongoing, and the two sisters are being closely monitored by the police.
