Bhubaneswar, July 20:Two girls, studying in Class X and Class VIII, were reportedly diagnosed pregnant on Saturday at two SC/ST department residential schools in Kandhamal and Mayurbhanj districts, respectively.
Pregnacy of the two girls were revealed during subsequent health checkups.
The Mayurbhanj case was reported from the Bangiriposi residential school.
According to reports, a Class VIII student residing in the hostel of a Sevashram under Bangiriposi police limits fell ill on Saturday morning. She was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, her tests revealed that she was a few-month pregnant.
The second case came from Kandhamal-based SC/ST Sevashram. A girl, residing in school hostel tested pregnant from her blood and urine tests. The incident came to light when the hostel matron observed that the Class X girl did not ask her for sanitary napkins for months together.
Later on, the girl’s parents were informed about the development. A complaint was filed at Tumudibandha Police Station by the school headmaster in this connection.
Not that the case of minor girl’s pregnancy is only limited to Kandhamal and Mayurbhanj. There were so many incidents that come as a concern for the SC/ST Department and the Odisha government as well. In a handful of incidents, some girls had reportedly delivered babies institutionally.
