Nabarangpur, May 18: In an unfortunate incident, an eight-year-old boy was killed after an unidentified vehicle ran over him in Sindhiguda village under Nandahandi block of Nabarangpur district. The minor boy has been identified as Himanshu Bhatra, son of Judhistira Bhatra of the same village. Reportedly, an unknown vehicle hit Himanshu and one of his friends on their way to school. Locals rushed both of them to District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) after the accident. Later Himanshu was shifted to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College & Hospital in Koraput as his health condition deteriorated. However, he was declared dead while undergoing treatment. The minor’s body was taken to his native village last evening where his family members and villagers blocked Sindhiguda Road by placing the body in the middle of the road demanding Rs 20 lakh compensation. Several vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road due to the road blockade. Thereafter this morning, the Additional District Collector, Additional Superintendent of Police, and other senior local officials arrived in the village with the police force to take control of the situation. The villagers took the minor’s body and conducted his last rites after receiving compensation from the owner of the vehicle, as well as a promise from the administration for financial assistance from the Red Cross Fund.
