Meeting on idol immersion and hassle free puja in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Oct 23: A meeting was organised today on implementation of guidelines prepared by Central pollution control Board on practices of Idol immersion during ensuing Durga Puja, Laxmi Puja and Kali Puja. The meeting chaired by the Commissioner BMC Prem Chandra Choudhary discussed about preventive actions for abetment of surface water pollution. Following the guidelines the committee has been formed taking members from State Pollution Control Board, DCP Police, Additional Commissioner, Zonal Deputy Commissioner, Puja shanty Committee representative and NGO representatives. Commissioner, BMC has directed the members of the committee formed for idol immersion for scrupulously implementing the order of Orissa High Court and to take appropriate preventive action for abetment of surface water pollution due to immersion of idols in different water bodies during the Puja Season in Bhubaneswar. Commissioner has ordered BMC Engineering Division to get ready with adequate temporary ponds having synthetic liner and earthen bandhs. Spot visit for the temporary ponds will be completed soon to ensure immersion in time. It has been directed by the Commissioner to form a team environmental scientists of State Pollution Control Board, ZDCs, the member NGOs and the member of Puja Committee responsible for immersion to monitor water quality parameter, toxic contents if any, the colour used in Puja Pandals. The committee has been asked to submit the information in this connection. List of violators of CPCB guidelines will also be informed by the committee for initiation of actions against them.
