Bhubaneswar, May 21: The Commissionerate Police today arrested two fraudsters for allegedly duping a girl of Rs 30 lakh on the pretext of admission in a private medical college here, informed Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh.
The accused have been identified as Amit Banerjee of Kolkata and Bikas Kumar of Bihar.
Sources said, one Palabi Saha on May 5 had lodged a complaint in which she mentioned that some fraudsters had duped her of Rs 30 lakh on the pretext of assuring a seat in a private medical college in the Infocity area here.
Based on the complaint, the police had initiated an investigation into the matter and nabbed the accused. Police have also recovered Rs 11 lakh in cash from their possession.
During the course of the investigation, the police have learned that the duo had been duping several aspirants in other states for the last 10 years. They were contacting the aspiring students after the publication of the NEET exam and duping them.
They were using forged aadhaar cards and other documents while travelling and staying in hotels.
Police will move to the court to take the accused on remand and interrogate them to unearth other details, added Singh.
