Mayurbhanj Vigilance Court convicts Court ASI on charges of corruption

Baripada, Oct 30: Manoranjan Panda, Court ASI of Police, Court of JMFC, Betnoti has been convicted by the Vigilance Court. Mayurbhanj on Saturday. Panda was facing trial in the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada in Balasore Vigilance P.S. Case No.10 dated March 12, 2012 Under Sections 13(2)R/W 13(1)(d)/7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for demand and acceptance of illegal gratification of Rs10,000 from a complainant to dispose of the case registered against his relative and others. Today, the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada convicted Panda and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The Court further sentenced him to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 on each count, and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months on each count.
