Baripada, Sept 2: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has arrested Sasmita Singh, the current Tehsildar of Jamda, in connection with a ₹4 crore government fund embezzlement case.
According to officials, the alleged financial irregularities took place during her previous tenure as the Executive Officer of Belpahad Municipality in Jharsuguda district. Investigations revealed that Singh was involved in the misappropriation of around ₹4 crore of government funds.
In light of the charges, the Odisha state government had earlier suspended Singh from service. Her arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing probe into financial irregularities in various municipal bodies across the state.
