Massive seizure of illicit liquor in Tiring: 5 Arrested, over ₹7 lakh worth of alcohol confiscated

Rairangpur, August 14: In a major crackdown on illegal liquor production and trade, the Excise Department has seized a large quantity of illicit country liquor and mahua brew from several villages under the Tiring Police Station limits. The operation led to the arrest of five individuals allegedly involved in the illicit trade.

Acting on the instructions of Excise Superintendent Mr. Prashant Kanhar and under the direct supervision of Rairangpur Excise Deputy Superintendent Mr. Soumyaranjan Behera, a special team was formed by the Rairangpur Excise Range. The raid was led by Bahalda Excise Officer Mr. Ranjit Sabar.

The team conducted simultaneous raids across Badepotka, Bagedihi, Nandabasa, Heseldihi, Podachakidi, Pandupani, and Kulughutu villages.

During the operation, officials seized: 466 liters of illicitly distilled country liquor, 10,500 liters of fermented mahua brew, 9,300 liters of mahua wash, used as raw material in liquor production.

The arrested individuals have been identified as: Lakhman Murmu (Heseldihi), Shyam Sundar Tudu (Podachakidi),  Damu Alda (Kulughutu), Budhu Hansda and Gobind Murmu (Pandupani). All five accused were presented before the court following their arrest.

According to the Excise Department, the estimated market value of the seized liquor and raw materials is over ₹7 lakh. The department has reiterated its commitment to intensifying such operations in the region to curb the illegal liquor trade.
