Raipur, August 24: Security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district have unearthed a significant cache of weapons, explosives, and iron materials allegedly stockpiled by Maoists to launch attacks on forces.
Acting on specific intelligence, a joint team comprising the 203 CoBRA Battalion, CRPF’s 241 Bastar Battalion, and local district force from Mettaguda camp launched an operation on Saturday. The forces combed the forested hill tracts of Koimeta, Eerapalli, Botelanka, and Dareli.
Around 11 a.m., during the search in the Koimeta hill area, the team discovered a concealed arms dump. The haul included country-made rifles, a BGL launcher with its barrel, explosive substances, and a large quantity of iron materials intended for manufacturing and planting IEDs.
The recovery list features a country-made rifle, BGL launcher and barrel, a broken UAV Netra propeller, explosives, electric wires, 480 iron clamps, 45 base plates, 47 pole anglers, steel pipes, rods, ground supporters, welding holders, tools, a black uniform, and an ammunition pouch.
Officials believe the seizure has thwarted a major Maoist plot to target security forces. The operation was led by 203 CoBRA Commandant Pawan Kumar Singh and Deputy Commandant Praveen Kumar. The troops returned to base safely without casualties.
Authorities reiterated that intensified anti-Maoist operations will continue across Sukma. Senior officials noted that the ongoing offensive aligns with Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s goal of eradicating Maoist insurgency from India by March 2026.
