Nuapada, July 8: A Maoist camp was unearthed and dismantled by security forces in the reserved forest of Narayan Dunguri near Jharabandh village under Sinapali police limits in Nuapada district. The operation led to the seizure of a tiffin bomb, 20 gelatin sticks, an electric detonator, and a large quantity of Maoist and explosive materials.
Nuapada Superintendent of Police (SP) G.R. Raghavendra disclosed the details during a press conference held at the district police headquarters.
According to reports, the district police received specific intelligence inputs on July 5 regarding Maoist movement in the Narayan Dunguri forest area. Acting on the input, a District Voluntary Force (DVF) team launched a combing operation in the region.
During the operation on Monday morning, the DVF personnel located and raided a Maoist hideout, successfully dismantling the camp and recovering a cache of explosives and Maoist propaganda materials.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the Maoists were plotting a major attack targeting security personnel and civilians. However, the timely intervention by the DVF thwarted the plan.
SP Raghavendra stated that combing operations are ongoing in the area to ensure the safety of local residents and to prevent any further Maoist activity.
