Indian sailors secure silver driving national medal tally upward

Indian sailors Manu Francis and Prince Noble grabbed a silver medal in the men's skiff event on Thursday, pushing India’s overall count to 62 at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Competing together in the 49er class, the duo completed nine tough races to score 23 points. This performance placed them second behind China, while Hong Kong took home bronze. Relatives and childhood friends from Kerala, Manu and Prince won one of their nine races to ensure their podium finish. They initially learned their sport at grassroots levels before training with military yachting nodes. India’s rich history in sailing at this continental tournament began with a gold medal victory during the 1982 New Delhi edition.

Nitesh Siwach advanced to the men's Greco-Roman 97kg wrestling final in dominant fashion. He defeated Mongolia's Gankhuyag Ganbaatar 9-0 and will face either an Iranian or Japanese opponent for first place. Mansi lost her 62kg semifinal 0-6 to Japan's Nonoka Ozaki and moves into the bronze bracket.

Indian women secured a squash bronze following a tight 1-2 semifinal defeat to Hong Kong. Men competing in sepaktakraw guaranteed another medal by beating Vietnam 2-0 in their quadrant group match. Archer Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru reached the compound men's individual semifinals after beating Chen Chieh-lun. Chikitha Taniparthi narrowly lost her quarterfinal 143-144 to Indonesia's Nurisa Dian Ashrifah. Yamini Mourya entered the 57kg judo repechage after dropping her quarterfinal match.
