India celebrated another podium finish when Manpreet Kaur claimed bronze in women’s shot put at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 on Friday. She secured her medal by throwing 17.17 metres during her fourth attempt. Chinese competitor Song Jiayuan took gold with a commanding 19.40m throw, while Zhang Linru won silver with 18.14m. Fellow Indian athlete Krishna Jayasankar Menon recorded a 16.57m throw to finish fifth, landing just behind South Korea’s Jeong Yu Sun. Track and field events remain historically crucial for India to improve its overall standing in major continental sporting tournaments.
Shooters Kamaljeet and Suruchi Inder Singh earned gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event earlier in the day. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Rudrankksh Patil, and Niraj Kumar added silver from the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions team competition. Mixed doubles table tennis players Manush Shah and Diya Chitale grabbed bronze after reaching the semi-finals, ultimately falling to Chinese duo Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha.
Both men’s and women’s kabaddi squads booked places in their respective finals by defeating Thailand and Nepal. Indian women defeated Japan 3-1 during Pool B hockey action. Squash mixed doubles pair Joshana Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar progressed to their semi-finals, guaranteeing another medal for the nation. Swimmer Rishabh Das finished sixth in his backstroke final, while weightlifter Seram Nirupama Devi took seventh place. India currently holds 21 total medals, featuring two gold, eight silver, and eleven bronze, ranking twelfth overall.
