Bhubaneswar, July 7: Manmohan Samal is set to be the president of state unit of BJP again. He will be president of the state unit of the saffron party for the fourth term.
Samal, the incumbent state BJP President, filed his nomination papers before the election officer Pratap Sarangi and in presence of central observer Sanjay Jaiswal. He is the sole candidate to have filed the nomination papers for the post of President, said BJP sources.
As per reports, the nomination process began at 12:30 pm and continued until 3:30 pm. Following the scrutiny of nominations, the final list of candidates will be released by 4:30 pm.
If required, voting will occur on July 8 from 9 am to 11 am, with the final results and the announcement of the new president expected by 11:30 am.
The election process will include 273 delegates from 37 organizational districts, comprising district presidents and state council members. Additionally, a Rajya Sabha MP, two Lok Sabha MPs, and five BJP MLAs will also take part in the election.
It is worth noting that Samal has previously served as the state unit president for three terms. He was elected twice, first from 1999 to 2000 and then from 2001 to 2004, before being nominated for a third term in March 2023.
