Bhubaneswar: Despite all efforts by the Kalahandi district administration, the 4-km road from Jenakhala to the Manikeshwari Temple at Bhawanipatana was stained with bloods of animals and birds sacrificed on the occasion of Chhatara Yatra.
Like every year, thousands of goats, sheep, cocks and hens were sacrificed by the locals before the Goddess Manikeswari along the road by locals.
According to traditional practices, locals sacrificed animals and birds to appease presiding deity for personal affluence and happiness.
The Chhatara Yatra was also observed at other places in the district. Thuamul-Rampur witnessed animal and bird sacrifices in big numbers.
Adequate police personnel have been deployed for smooth conduct of the yatra.
